What is an LPA?
An LPA is a legal document that lets you choose trusted people (‘attorneys’) to make financial decisions or health and care decisions on your behalf.
There are 2 types of Lasting Power of Attorneys

A Property and Financial Affairs LPA allows your chosen person to handle your bank accounts, investments, bills and property.

A Health and Welfare LPA covers decisions about your health and care.

Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney
A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney appoints a family member or a trusted friend to make decisions for them which relate to their health and personal welfare, such as living arrangements or medical treatment in the event of them becoming mentally incapable.
A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney empowers your chosen Attorneys to make give or refuse life sustaining treatment on your behalf. A Lasting Power of Attorney can only be used once it is registered by at the Office of the Public Guardian
Property and Finance Lasting Power of Attorney
A Property and Finance Lasting Power of Attorney appoints a family member or a trusted friend to make decisions about your finances and assets including property. A Property and Finance Lasting Power of Attorney enables attorneys to carry out actives such as managing your bank account, paying bills and pension funds and selling your home.
